My Testimony
I've been going to church pretty much ALL my life!I was born on the small island of Jamaica and my parents would send me to church with my next-door neighbors every Sunday; however, my parents didn't go to church with me. I am still puzzled as to why they never went with me but I am thankful for them sending me. Every Sunday as I attended Sunday school and church, I learned more and more about Jesus/God through songs and bible stories. The church was lively and fun! Also, my parents would pray with me at night and they taught me how to pray, specifically the 23rd Psalm “The Lord is My Shepherd”.
I never forgot those things.
After my mother and I came to America, I didn't have a church home because no one in my family attended church. So, for about 3 years, I didn't go to church. When I was in High School, one day my aunt "Shieks" invited me to The Brooklyn Tabernacle. She had given her heart to the Lord and started attending BT and felt the need to invite me. I loved it so much at BT that I eventually started going by myself. The presence of God was so evident and the word of God was taught in its totality. (I still LOVE the Brooklyn Tabernacle, especially the beautiful choir and the biblically sound teaching by Pastor Cymbala. It will ALWAYS be my church home!)
One day, my aunt invited me to a Friday night youth service at The Brooklyn Tabernacle featuring the Christian Rap artist DA’ TRUTH. This was my first time actually hearing Christian Rap music. It was awesome! This is the night I gave my eighteen-year-old heart completely to the Lord Jesus Christ! After all the singing and worshipping was over, the host made an altar call to give our hearts to Jesus. I remember vividly, I stood next to my aunt and I said to her, “I think I want to go up there”. She then said, “Go ahead”. I proceeded to the altar, not fully knowing the transformation that would take place in me that night and forever. On April 18th, 2008, I decided to give my heart and life to Jesus and I never looked back! A few months later in January 2009, I got water baptized and my fire for Christ has been burning ever since.
