A little about me...
I am originally from Jamaica but I came to America at the tender age of 10. I lived in Brooklyn, NY up until I entered college in August 2007. Me, my husband, and our first child then moved to New Jersey permanently when I was in my third year of college at GCU in Lakewood, NJ. We lived in Newark, NJ for a few months until we moved to East Orange, NJ. We now have four beautiful children: two boys and two girls.
A little more about me...
I have a passion for reading, writing, and teaching. I've been writing since I was a little girl growing up in Jamaica; I would write in my diary when I got home from school. My passion for writing then grew into creating stories about me and my closest friends in Middle School, in a black and white notebook. Then, in High School, I started writing poetry and that passion continued all throughout college. I even started a poetry club on campus called "Da' Poetry Corner". Although I don't write as much poetry now, my desire is to start writing poetry with passion and persistence again! I can't wait to share some of my poetry with you :)
My parents and I ALWAYS knew that I was called to be a Teacher. Growing up, I would play teacher and student with one of my best friends in Jamaica. Also, I would teach my dolls all the time; I pretended as if they were my actual students (lol). In college, I studied English and Education but didn't fully complete my Education degree due to some unforeseen circumstances; however, I did graduate with my Bachelors of Arts degree in English in May 2012! I was also a Substitute Teacher for almost 5 years before I decided to apply to be a Teacher Assistant. I've been a T.A now for two years but I am working towards having my own classroom (it's well overdue!).
Reading is my hobby and my super power :) I mainly read Christian/spiritual growth books, personal growth books, and educational books. I read a lot because I want to know more and grow more! I will share with you, some of the books I've read as well as books I am currently reading. I will list these books as recommendations or suggestions to my blog visitors and blog followers. These are books that I know will be essential to your spiritual and personal growth because they too have helped me grow mentally and spiritually! I want to leave you with a quote to some up my purpose for reading. This quote is by one of my favorite children's author: Dr.Seuss!
"The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you will go."
-Dr.Seuss from Oh The Places You'll Go
Yours Truly,
S.Harris
